A mystery photo from the past. If you know who these guys from LNE Class of 1959, who were ahead of their time are, you have too much time on your hands. Names of these Huntington students may follow at a later date.

Huntington Elementary School, 2900 N. 46th St. Originally Jackson High School stood alone on the corner of 46th and Adams in University Place. It was condemned as a school and Northeast High School was built in 1941. Huntington Elementary stood across 47th Street from Jackson with kindergarten held in a yellow two-story frame building on the corner of the lot. In 1949 Huntington was overcrowded and some classes were held in the basement of the old Jackson High with the upper floors used for Army Reserve classes. Eventually all of Jackson High was occupied by Huntington, the kindergarten building was torn down, and 47th Street was closed to traffic. Then a new gym and cafeteria was constructed to join the Huntington and Jackson buildings. In 1999 both schools were torn down and a new Huntington School was built centered on the two properties.
Note - Nadine Turner Jordan believes there were two sixth grade classes at Huntington. Does any Huntington Alum have a picture or pictures of the other class?
