In Memory

Fred Chapelle

Fred attended grade school at Huntington.

He was on the wrestling team at Northeast and a member of FFA.

Unfortunately, Fred was one of several teenagers including Doug Crook and Jack Gibelhaus that were killed in a tragic automobile accident on N. Cotner, on the curve just South of the Northeast Kings. Ted Gekas was also a passenger in Fred's car, but survived the accident.

The car was parked outside of Northeast High School after the accident.

I went all the way through Huntington Grade School with Fred. Sadly he was killed in an automobile accident when he was in 11th or 12th grade. He and several others crashed into a tree as they drove out of Northeast Kings. As I recall their car was displayed so the rest of us could take a lesson and learn from their accident.

I knew Fred well at Huntington school. His family lived on a small farm a block or two north of about 37th and Adams, backed up to the railroad tracks. One year they had invested in pigs, and one sow had a litter which I just had to go and see. I couldn't believe how cute baby pigs were. Fred had a younger brother, Darrell, and a still younger sister(I don't remembre her name) who was quite popular, a cheerleader at Northeast.
